5.0-magnitude earthquake shakes up Anchorage, Alaska
A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck about 20 miles north of Anchorage early Saturday morning.
The epicenter of the quake was near Big Lake, Alaska, according the U.S. Geological Survey. It was quickly followed by small aftershocks with magnitudes of 3.9 and 4.4.
The quake was not large enough to trigger a tsunami warning.
Magnitude 5.0 earthquakes are easy to feel and often cause minor damage. Objects can fall from shelves, and some windows break.
A 7.8-magnitude quake, with an epicenter 530 miles southwest of Anchorage, struck the region in July. That quake was large enough for a tsunami warning, though no tsunamis were observed.
