🌱 5/3 Field Hosts Battle of I-75 + Common Pleas Suspends Juries

Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. The Battle of I-75 baseball game between rivals the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University will take place at Fifth Third Field in Downtown Toledo this spring. Scheduled for May 10, the game will be a chance for BGSU to settle the score after having lost 5-2 against the Rockets last year. (13abc Action News)

  2. The Toledo Police Department is keeping the memory of fallen Officer Brandon Stalkers alive by honoring his spirit and sense of humor. Officer Stalkers' partner, Michael Vanderhorst, was a classmate in the 2018 Toledo Police Academy and credits the support of the entire police force for helping navigate the grief that comes with such a tragedy.   3. Jury trials in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas were put on hold last week through an order by administrative Judge Ian English. The mandate is scheduled to run through February 4 and comes as the area has experienced an alarming rise in COVID cases. (13abc Action News)

  4. Mobile Meals of Toledo, a group that brings food to older adults in need of some help, also offer meals to their pets this time of year. The additional project came about after volunteers noticed many Toledoans struggling to keep their pets fed in the winter months. (WNWO NBC 24)

  5. This month, the Toledo City Council presented a proclamation recognizing the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department, who face an increased risk of cancer related to their job. The International Association of Firefighters and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network have already designated January as Fire Fighter Cancer Awareness Month as the disease accounts for more than 65% of line-of-duty deaths for firefighters each year.
