5 arrested in connection with violent robberies in Modesto, police say

Five people were arrested in connection with two violent robberies in Modesto, police said Friday. The first robbery happened Dec. 26 in the early-morning hours in the area of Maze Boulevard and Martin Luther King, the Modesto Police Department said. Officers were responding to reports of an assault and robbery of two victims. Witnesses told police there were multiple armed suspects and were able to provide a description of the vehicle they were in. One of the victims of the first robbery had major injuries and was hospitalized, police said. The second robbery happened early Jan. 2 at a AM/PM gas station in 5th Street, police said. The victim of the second robbery was also hospitalized with major injuries.
