5 arrested in July 2022 Las Vegas homicide case, police say

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials, five suspects in a deadly July 2022 shooting that killed two in the northwest Las Vegas valley were arrested.

Emerson Hewitt, 18, Damion Mixon,18, Larry Young, 18, Mark Burton, 20, and Nasir Leggroan, 20, were all identified as suspects in the deaths of Deanna Marie Diaz, 24, and Samiir Smith, 19.

According to LVMPD officials, Hewitt was arrested on April 8, while Mixon, Young, Burton, and Leggroan were arrested on Wednesday. Each of them was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and face two counts of open murder.

On July 29, 2022, officers responded to a call of a shooting near the 1900 block of Cindysue Street, north of Holly Avenue, shortly after 10 p.m., where police found Diaz and Smith with gunshot wounds. Medical personnel pronounced them dead at the scene. Police said the shooting followed a physical altercation.
