1. The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor—the Truth and the Turmoil by Tina Brown
The Palace Papers is the latest bombshell book to reveal what’s going on inside the royal family in 2022. Tina Brown has written about the British monarchy for nearly three decades (this is her third book). In this one, she reveals how the Windsor family has tried to reinvent itself after the death of Princess Diana and the celebrity-like status she brought to the palace.
2. Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand
Finding Freedom is an international best seller from two top royal reporters who had behind-the-scenes access to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. This book reveals why the royal couple chose to leave the firm and pursue their own path outside of the British monarchy and outside of the United Kingdom. Some of the best and juiciest revelations include the fact that Harry and Meghan were secretly engaged for months, and someone on the inside tipped off the press. Of course, you can also read about why Harry and William’s relationship first strained.
3. Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan by Christopher Andersen
Christopher Andersen previously wrote Diana’s Boys, an intimate look into Prince William and Prince Harry’s upbringing and relationship. Now, this book picks up in their adult lives and explores how their relationship has infamously changed with marriage and fatherhood. The book also looks at the headline-making scandals, including allegations of bullying, betrayal and racism, and the effects on more than one royal family member.
4. Diana: Closely Guarded Secret by Ken Wharfe and Robert Jobson
When Diana: Closely Guarded Secret was first published in 2002, it was written by a former member of the Royalty Protection Branch, and it was the subject of criticism and controversy. But in 2016, ahead of the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, a revised and updated version was released (this one) with insight provided by former Metropolitan Police Royalty Protection Branch Officer Ken Wharfe.
Wharfe was Diana’s close protection officer for more than six years. The book reveals an inside look at the Princess of Wales’s personal life, including her relationship with Oliver Hoare, her brief 1992 disappearance on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean and her attempts to save her marriage.
5. Traitor King: The Scandalous Exile of the Duke & Duchess of Windsor by Andrew Lownie
Prince Harry wasn’t the first monarch to step down from his royal duties. In 1936, King Edward VIII left the throne and was re-named the Duke of Windsor. His reason for leaving? He fell in love with an American woman who was twice divorced. It sounds like a familiar story, but Edward had many more scandals surrounding him than the Duke of Sussex.
