You likely scored some insane deals during yesterday’s epic Black Friday sales, but today it’s time to shift gears and support smaller businesses that deserve just as much love.

Known as Small Business Saturday (the day after Black Friday), today focuses on lesser-known brands not funded by larger corporations. And a large number of these businesses are actually Black-owned. Though some of their products are additionally available via third-party retailers like Amazon, Target and Sephora, these small Black-owned businesses are still deserving of your patronage.

Covering all bases, these brands craft everything from stationery and innovative baby products to candles and face masks. And personally, as an avid supporter of most of these brands, I can firmly stand behind the quality and effectiveness of these products.

Be Rooted is the first Black-owned stationery brand to be sold at Target. The brand’s founder, Jasmin Foster, made it her mission to reset the stationery market and provide much-needed representation with designs highlighting Black women and phrases.

The brand’s journal designs feature a range of Black and Brown skin tones, protective hairstyles and more elements related to the Black experience.

Darlyng & Co. was founded by couple Carl and Tara Darnley who came up with what they called their “first invention” when their then-2-month-old daughter began teething.

The teether, named the Yummy Mitt Teething Mitten, allows infants to self-soothe during the teething process. After noticing the wildly positive reception to their first product, the couple created more items inspired by their children. They told Amazon that their favorite thing about being business owners is “seeing our products solve daily problems for parents and caregivers.”

I know first-hand how difficult it is to achieve a barber-quality haircut at home. And, unfortunately, this is a reality for so many men around the world. To make achieving the perfect lineup a lot easier, Joshua Esnard founded The Cut Buddy in 2000 when he was just 13.

Tired of making too many errors trying to cut his own hair, he made this invention that changed the game and even appeared on Shark Tank. Today, thousands of men swear by this template to shape up their hairlines and beards.

Jackie Aina is one of the most successful YouTube beauty bloggers of all time, so when she launched her own line of candles and satin sleepwear, her fans were a bit surprised — pleasantly, that is.

Forvr Mood, dubbed a lifestyle brand that makes “luxe” affordable, offers beautifully designed and crafted candles with tongue-in-cheek names that are perfect for just about any occasion. With names like Cuffing Season, Cookie Coma, Sneaky Link, Skinny Dipped and Hey Big Head, there are arguably no other candles like these on the market.

Today, shoppers can get these candles directly from Forvr Mood or at Sephora.

Over the past few years, face masks have become a part of our daily uniforms, so if you’ve found a brand that’s both comfortable and effective, stick with it. For me, nothing’s covered all bases like Henry Mask.

Founded by celebrity tailor Patrick Henry (professionally known as “Fresh”), these masks come in a variety of colors and patterns and feature a pleated, non-woven, three-ply construction. They’re both washable and reusable and look stylish with any look. And best of all, they’re easy to breathe in. Trust me; these won’t disappoint.

Henry Masks, available for both kids and adults, are now also available on Amazon.
