5 Central Florida restaurants shut down during inspections last week

Five Central Florida restaurants were temporarily shut down after inspections in the week of June 18-24, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Orange County

Lam’s Garden at 2505 E. Colonial Dr. in Orlando shut down on June 19.

There were 28 violations, nine of which were a high priority. Those violations included non-food grade paper used as liner for a food container, rodent activity and a stop-sale issued on food due to temperature abuse.

Officials conducted two more inspections on June 20. On the first inspection, there were 15 violations. On the second inspection, there were 10.

The first inspection featured on high-priority violation for rodent droppings. The second inspection found zero high-priority violations.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Ta-Ke Sushi And Grill at 1421 N. Orange Ave. in Orlando shut down on June 22.

Officials found 17 violations, three of which were a high priority. Those violations included an unsanitized/broken dish machine, roaches and an employee and server washing their hands with no soap.

A follow-up visit on June 23 found seven violations. Inspectors issued time extensions for the unsanitized/broken dish machine and roach activity.

A third visit on June 24 found six violations, with time extensions for the same issues found on June 23.

The restaurant is still closed as of Monday afternoon.

B&T Jamaican Jerk Restaurant, Llc at 8825 W. Colonial Dr. in Ocoee shut down on June 23.

Officials found 10 violations, only one of which was a high priority for rodent activity.

A follow-up visit happened on June 24.

Inspectors found two violations, and none were a high priority.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Volusia County

Daytona’s Original First Turn at 5236 S. Ridgewood Ave. in Port Orange shut down on June 20.

Inspectors found 15 violations, five of which were a high priority. Those violations included rodent activity, raw food not separated from ready-to-eat-food and rodent nesting materials present.

Officials revisited the restaurant on June 21. They found seven violations and issued a time extension on a high-priority violation for dumping wastewater on the ground.

The restaurant met inspection standards.

Osceola County

Kabab House & NY Pizza at 3293 Oxford Dr. in Kissimmee shut down on June 19.

Inspectors found four violations, three of which were a high priority. Those violations included an employee not washing their hands before handling food, raw food stored next to ready-to-eat food and 20+ rodent droppings on kitchen food storage shelves.

Officials conducted an additional inspection on June 20 and two more inspections on June 21.

The June 20 inspection had four violations, while the first June 21 inspection had 14.

On the second June 21 inspection, there were three violations. Two of them were a high priority.

The restaurant requires a follow-up inspection before reopening.

Complaints and warnings

Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida, with 22.

Volusia had two, Osceola had 14, Lake had three, Brevard had seven, Seminole had four. Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.

Those with emergency orders were shut down because of high-priority violations and only reopened after follow-up inspections signed off on those violations.
