5 children hospitalized in rollover school bus crash in Chicago; driver refused treatment

A rollover school bus crash in Chicago Tuesday left five children injured and several lanes blocked, according to state and city officials.

No passengers faced life-threatening injuries after the bus rolled over, Chicago Fire said on Twitter. Officials said no other vehicles were involved in the accident on Interstate 94 at 35th Street.

The bus driver refused to seek medical treatment, according to Chicago Fire.

The five children injured were between the ages of 12 and 16 and taken to Comer Children's Hospital and University of Chicago Medical Center to be treated for their non-life threatening injuries, fire officials said, according to ABC7 Chicago.

USA TODAY has reached out to Chicago Fire, Illinois State Police and the school for comment.

The crash caused the closure of three of the four lanes with the bus being towed shortly before 4 p.m., ABC7 reported.

The cause of the rollover wreck, which occurred during rainy conditions Tuesday on a busy stretch of freeway near Guaranteed Rate Field.
