5 current and former Sixers who have a chance at the Hall of Fame

With the induction of the 2020 Hall of Fame class on Saturday, now is the time to look at some potential current and former members of the Philadelphia 76ers who have a chance at making the Hall of Fame in the future.

The Sixers already have a decorated Hall of Fame history with the likes of Allen Iverson, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Charles Barkley, and others, but now is the time to examine some players who have donned the Sixers jersey recently.

There are four members Sixers Wire is going to examine, three current and one former member of the team, who have a real shot at making the Hall in the future. This list is in no particular order for those who are into those sorts of things.

Now, lets get into the four players:

Joel Embiid

The big fella has gotten off to an incredible start to his career. In five seasons, he's averaging 24.8 points and 11.3 rebounds with 3.1 assists while being named an All-Star four times. He also has been named to an All-NBA Team and an All-Defensive Team twice while being squarely in the MVP conversation for the 2020-21 season. For him to seriously be considered for the Hall, he will have to keep these numbers up while also win in the playoffs, but it is definitely possible. Being only 27-years old, Embiid can still improve and he has during this season while helping the team earn the No. 1 seed in the East. Now, the challenge will be to win in the postseason and start adding to his resume.

Ben Simmons

Simmons' career has been heavily scrutinized due to his lack of a jumper, but in just four seasons, he has made a big impact. He has made an All-Star appearance in three seasons, he has been named to an All-Defensive Team, an All-NBA Team, he has a Rookie of the Year award, and he has led the league in steals once. That is an impressive start to his career. Like Embiid, he will have to start winning in the playoffs to really pad to his potential Hall of Fame resume. While being 24-years old, he also has a ton of time to add to his game and really get some wins in the postseason. He is as talented as they come and he has the potential to have a long and successful career.

Doc Rivers

Rivers has an easy case for the Hall. He has a career coaching record of 991-704, he has a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008, he had success with the Orlando Magic to begin his career, and he also did a great job of helping the Los Angeles Clippers establish a winning culture. He has also done wonders with the Sixers in his first season. He has gotten the most out of Embiid as he is putting him in positions to succeed and guided the team to their first No. 1 seed since the Iverson days in 2001. It would be a shock if Rivers did not make the Hall as a first ballot.

Andre Iguodala

Some will scoff at this, but Iguodala has had a terrific career. He made an All-Star game with the Sixers in 2012, he has made an All-Defensive Team twice, he won three titles with the Golden State Warriors in 2015, and he also won Finals MVP in 2015. He is also still contributing for the Miami Heat at the moment and helped them make the NBA Finals in 2020. He has been one of the better two-way players in the league for a long time and he has a serious case to be named to the Hall of Fame whenever he does decide to retire.

Dwight Howard

Howard is another one who has an easy case to be in the Hall of Fame. This man has been named the Defensive Player of the Year 3 times, he’s been named an All-Star eight times, was named to an All-NBA Team five times, and was named to an All-Defensive Team five times. On top of that, he won a title in 2020 with the Lakers. The work Howard has done with the Sixers has also been great off their bench. He has gracefully accepted the fact that he’s no longer a star and he has understood that he needs to help the Sixers right now as a guy off the bench. He’s a shoo-in for the Hall.
