Earlier this year, General Motors introduced the 2017 Cadillac XT5 compact premium crossover SUV as a replacement for its best-selling SRX crossover. The new 5-passenger XT5 has large shoes to fill, as the SRX accounted for 40% of Cadillac’s sales and was the top-volume model in its segment in 2015, according to data collected by J.D. Power.

Five fast facts about the 2017 Cadillac XT5 may help with your shopping research:

1) The Cadillac XT5 is built on a new global vehicle architecture that is 278 lbs. lighter than its predecessor, partly due to laser welding. The XT5’s cabin offers quiet luxury with an extra 3.2 inches of rear legroom vs. the SRX and a maximum 63 cu. ft. of cargo space with rear seats folded down. Four upholstery color choices and six exterior paint choices also are available.

2) A 3.6-liter V-6 engine powers the 2017 XT5 and produces 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque, matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The new XT5 comes in standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) or available all-wheel drive (AWD) on higher trim levels. The EPA estimates that the XT5 averages 19 mpg in city driving and 27 mpg on the highway. Suspension packages, brake upgrades, and performance exhaust features can be added.

3) Trim levels include XT5, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Platinum. The base XT5 rides on 18-in. silver aluminum wheels with standard features including aluminum roof rails, power liftgate, keyless entry, push-button start, rear-vision camera and park assist, wood trim, power-adjustable front bucket seats, CUE infotainment and Bose audio system, OnStar, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

4) Upscale trims add a sunroof, leather seats, heated mirrors and steering wheel, advanced driver-assistance system packages, rain-sensing wipers, specialty wheels, LED lighting systems, heated rear seats that recline, and a security system.

5) The CUE infotainment system is compatible with Apple or Android smartphone technology. Advanced safety features are available or standard. The XT5 uses radar and cameras to provide side blind-spot alert, collision warning systems, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
