5 Funny, Inspiring Yearbook Quotes From the Graduating Women of 2015

Along with preparing for college and dancing their hearts out at prom, many seniors have to come up with a quote to leave behind in their high school yearbook.

Selecting one phrase to sum up the past four years or inspire others often leaves students quoting clichés or rappers or simply saying, “I don’t have a quote.”

But a handful of graduating women put their lasting words to good use—and shared the evidence on social media.

Feminism, Gay Rights, and Equal Pay

The twist in California senior Caitlyn Cannon’s quote takes aim at equality, including same-sex marriage and equal pay for men and women. She found a version of the quote on Tumblr and changed the perspective to correspond to her sexual orientation. “I was tired of seeing the same old quotes from popular books and movies and authors, and I wanted to call attention to a problem that women face,” Cannon told The Huffington Post.

Who Got the Last Laugh?

Two California seniors who wear head coverings took different but equally funny routes to explain why they wear hijabs.

Rafika Alami received a ton of positive feedback, with women telling her they were inspired by her confidence, BuzzFeed reports.

Egyptian student Fatima Abdel-Gwad finally laid the rumors to rest about her hijab with a Harry Potter reference.

Sorry, Not Sorry

Dress code is an often contested high school topic these days, as administrators enforce harsh guidelines, outlawing even the slightest hint of skin. Too often administrators tell girls their bodies are “distracting” their male peers instead of teaching boys not to sexualize their classmates. Chloe Cross has been the subject of such harassment but thinks her school is overreacting: “Nobody from my class would be going to college if bodies were as distracting as the administration makes them out to be,” she told Yahoo Canada.

Sweet and Simple

Some of the best advice for graduating girls is to just be themselves as they enter adulthood.
