2 killed, 3 hospitalized in Inglewood shooting

Two people were killed and three others remain hospitalized after a shooting in Inglewood on Saturday night.

The shooting was reported around 4:40 p.m. at a parking lot near the intersection of Manchester Boulevard and 12th Avenue, according to the Inglewood Police Department.

The victims were only identified as five men over 50 years old.

City officials confirmed one man died at the scene and a second man died during surgery at the hospital. Of the three surviving victims, one remains in critical condition while two others are stable with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the men were sitting inside a car in the parking lot when another vehicle suddenly pulled up and began firing at them.

Video from the scene shows a large police and fire crew presence while several people were seen being wheeled into ambulances. The victims’ vehicle was riddled with bullet holes and shattered windows.

Some neighbors were shocked to hear of the violence in what they described as an otherwise quiet neighborhood.

“This is a quiet area over here,” said Cathy Joseph, who has lived and worked nearby for years. “It’s businesses and stuff. It’s not a hangout, so for something like this to happen, this is out of the ordinary.”

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but authorities said they do not believe the confrontation was random.

“Who would just walk up to someone and shoot them five times?” Joseph wondered. “Five people? That’s kind of ridiculous and scary. That’s the wild, wild west.”

With plenty of unanswered questions remaining about the deadly incident, Joseph said she wishes whoever pulled the trigger would’ve thought twice.

“They need to think about the reality of what’s going to happen to them after this,” Joseph said. “They do something quick in the moment of madness but they don’t think about what’s going to happen after.”

The westbound lanes of Manchester Boulevard remained shut down for hours as crews worked to clear the debris.

No arrests have been made and no suspect information was released so far. Police are canvassing the neighborhood in search of surveillance video that may have captured the suspects. Anyone with information can call Inglewood Police at 310-412-5211
