There were three cars sitting on the shoulder of I-435 at around 6 p.m., one of which Hammonds and a passenger were inside of. The crash began when a driver of a Porsche ran into a semi-truck, which redirected the semi, crashing into a car before smashing into the rear of Hammonds’ Chevy pickup truck.

Due to the closeness of the incident to State Line Road, an ambulance from the Kansas City Fire Department transported Hammonds from the scene.

Hammonds’ passenger was one of the seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
