5 killed in Wimauma crash, shutting down State Road 674

Five people were killed Sunday morning in a three-vehicle crash in Wimauma in southeastern Hillsborough County.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash occurred when a Toyota Tacoma traveling west on State Road 674 veered into the eastbound lanes and struck a Chevrolet Silverado head-on. A third pickup, a Chevrolet S-10, swerved to avoid the collision, but spun and went into a ditch after striking debris from the initial crash.

Police said the crash involved five fatalities. Four, all from Bowling Green, were in the Tacoma: a 29-year-old male driver; a 38-year-old female passengers; and two male passengers, ages 38 and 23. The Silverado’s driver, a 42-year-old man from Wimauma, was also killed. One Silverado passenger, a 40-year-old man from Wimauma, suffered serious injuries. The S-10 driver, a 59-year-old Mulberry man, was not injured.

The crashed forced State Road 674 to shut down in both directions Sunday morning. The road reopened around 2 p.m.
