5 Monroe-area high school football predictions for Week 6 of LHSAA season

Week 5 of the Louisiana high school football season had oddities and broken streaks at the halfway point of the regular season. Northeast Louisiana schools continue to surprise in positive and negative ways.

Most programs begin district competition Friday. All games begin at 7 p.m. and are subject to change.

Here are the top games to watch for Week 6 of high school football in the News-Star area.

Pineville (0-5) at West Monroe (3-1)

West Monroe is coming off an impromptu off week after Hurricane Ian canceled travel plans for South Broward (Hollywood, Florida). A week of rest means the Rebels are fired up and ready to take the field as they open district play against Pineville.

Prediction: West Monroe 45, Pineville 10

West Ouachita (4-1) at Ouachita Parish (2-3)

West Ouachita was one of the few undefeated teams before a 28-27 loss to North Caddo last Friday. Now the Chiefs open district play against Ouachita Parish, which is led by running back Cardell Sirmons (247.8 yards per game).

Prediction: Ouachita Parish 42, West Ouachita 24

Carroll (4-0) at Wossman (3-2)

Carroll is the last northeast Louisiana team to remain undefeated. During Week 4, the Bulldogs beat 3A state champion Sterlington 34-20. Wossman has had big wins, and big losses. Both teams are playing under first-year head coaches; Brandon Landers at Carroll and Terence Cahee ll at Wossman.

Prediction: Carroll 24, Wossman 23

St. Frederick (4-1) at Ouachita Christian (4-1)

The long-time rivals face off to open district play on Thursday. St. Frederick has surprised this season with its only loss coming to 4A foe Franklin Parish in Week 2. Ouachita Christian lost its game last week, against 5A Ouachita Parish. The Eagles have yet to lose at home since Week 2 in 2018, a 22-20 loss to Sterlington.

Prediction: Ouachita Christian 35, St. Frederick 24

Peabody (3-2) at Neville (3-2)

Neville starts district play after a tough 5A loss to Ruston. The Tigers have proved themselves more than capable of competing in Class 4A, dominating Huntington and scrapping by Evangel Christian. Neville is led by quarterback Brooks Anazalone, who has 637 yards passing with eight TDs. The Warhorses (3-2) lost to their only nondistrict 4A match, 40-34 against Northside.

Prediction: Neville 35, Peabody 7
