5-year-old girl shot in New Orleans East

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Police are investigating after a child was shot in New Orleans East on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, around 10:40 a.m., a shooting in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway left a 5-year-old girl wounded.

A family member told police the victim was inside the home when they heard a gunshot and realized the child had been shot in her foot.

The girl was taken to a local hospital by car. Her condition is unknown.

The NOPD is in the process of gathering evidence and information to determine a possible suspect and motive at this time.
