Virtual Bouquets to Art: How Our Conservators Protect the Art

Each year, the de Young Museum celebrates Bouquets to Art, a week of floral displays inspired by (and appearing alongside) the museum's artwork. With the museum closed, the exhibition is on hiatus this year, but conservator Tricia O’Regan will entertain fans with a behind-the-scenes look at how the museum protects its precious paintings and sculptures from the pollen, water and other hazards that come with the gorgeous flower displays.

Lunch with the Expert: Stacey Keare

Tune in for a fireside chat with Girls Rights Project president Stacey Keare, whose organization fights trafficking, violence and other forms of global mistreatment and discrimination against girls.

Joined by UC Hastings assistant chancellor Jenny Kwon, Keare (a Hastings alumna) will discuss the biggest threats to girls' rights worldwide, and how everyday people can help them attain an education and a safe environment in which to grow up.

Harvey Milk Democratic Club General Meeting

The Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club is hosting its July general meeting tonight, with District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton dropping in to discuss the recent calls for reform and/or defunding of SFPD, and how it might happen.

The meeting will also honor the late Harry Britt and Jane Morrison, both of whom died last month. Britt, a former San Francisco Supervisor, was appointed to replace the assassinated Harvey Milk in 1979, while Morrison was a longtime local fundraiser and advocate for progressive causes.

Gasterias in Habitat & Culture

Getting into gardening these days? Lean in to your plant passion as Tony Roberts of the Haworthia Society presents a brief history of gasteria, a succulent plant native to South Africa that's a close relative of aloe. Roberts' talk will illustrate the plants' habitat and culture, key characteristics and aspects of cultivation and propagation — yes, they can be grown in the Bay Area.

Decoding the Landscape with Jeff McLane

Meanwhile, landscape art aficionados can tune into this interactive workshop with longtime landscape architect Jeff McLane. A 25-year veteran of the Bay Area landscape design scene, McLane is the director of the Academy of Art University's School of Landscape Architecture. He'll provide insights into the ways professional landscape architects approach their work, and tips on how to adapt their methods for smaller projects.
