5 places to order Christmas Day meals to-go in metro Detroit

No time for cooking a holiday meal? Too late for restaurant reservations? Many restaurants and some grocery stores have you covered with complete meal options already cooked and ready to reheat and serve.

There's prime rib and seafood galore.

Recently featured in Midwest Living magazine, chef Kieron Hales of Zingerman’s Cornman Farms has curated holiday meal dishes that can be ordered and are sold separately, from bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin to figgy pudding. Through the holidays, Cornman Farms is also featuring its dry-rubbed hams cured in the farm's signature 18-ingredient marinade.

"We've started to see a wonderful trend of people gathering in small groups over a more extended 'holiday' period of time, making January a perfectly acceptable time to celebrate,” he said. “That's why in addition to our Christmas dinner to go, we offer our holiday ham and other seasonal favorites available for preorder in December and January."

If side dishes are all you need, they have those, from mashed or roasted potatoes to mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts. All are a click or phone call for ordering away.

Here are a few samples of what's offered. Be sure to phone ahead and check websites. Get your orders in soon as most have a cut-off for ordering, which is very soon. Some also have specific pick-up times.

Chef Kieron Hales prepared holiday feast features bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin, rich beef gravy, roasted potatoes, butter braised leeks, carrot and swede (rutabaga), jam roly-poly with custard, figgy pudding, Zingerman's Bakehouse Stollen and Zingerman's Bakehouse Fancy Schmancy cookie box. All items are sold separately. Holiday hams are also available.

Hazel's Holiday Merry & Bright Take-A-Way menu has a la carte offerings, from hors d'ouevres, including peel and eat shrimp and oysters by the dozen to ready-to-heat mains of ham or Alaskan king crab available by the pound and sides such as cheesy potatoes and lobster bisque. There's also an Alaskan King Crab Feast that feeds four for $180 and includes two pounds of king crab, sausage, mussels, shrimp, boiled potatoes, green beans, and dinner rolls. A whole pot pie that feeds four is $40 for chicken, $45 for beef, and $55 for lobster. You can also order holiday drinks and desserts.

Offering the wigilia – a traditional Polish Christmas Eve dinner with favorite recipes.

The dinner serves and includes mushroom barley soup, deviled eggs, beet, cabbage and carrot salad, potato and cheese or sauerkraut and mushroom pierogi, rolled herring , mushroom golabki, dill potatoes, herbed trout, and a polish poppy seed roll. The meal is ready to cook and ready to reheat and comes with reheating instructions. It’s $125 for two servings or $250 for four servings.

Four complete holiday packages each featuring a different main dish. There's prime rib, Alaskan king crab, New Zealand rack of lamb and filet mignon. Packages include side dishes and roll, and can be ordered to serve two or four. Prices start at $70. You can also order Christmas groceries to-go, including filet mignon, salmon and Alaskan king crab that are ready to cook. Cold, ready-to-heat sides such as Brussels sprouts, fingerling mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and salads are also available.

A Christmas meal package for two ($75) or four ($140) includes a choice of entrees, sides, and desserts. Entrees choices include Ozark Trails smoked peppered ham, wild rice stuffed delicata squash, and pit-smoked Amish chicken. Side dish choices are bacon-braised greens, Roadhouse mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and Anson Mills grits. For dessert choose from butterscotch pudding or blueberry buttermilk biscuit bread pudding.

Available for drive-thru and curbside pick up.
