All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 are open Friday morning from Exit 14 in Ashland to the California border following an overnight closure due to severe weather conditions in northern California.

Caltrans officials said the weather is expected to warm up this weekend, but it is unclear whether upcoming weather conditions will close Interstate 5 again. Drivers are urged to check road conditions before traveling.

"It's good for folks to monitor, until we get to drier, more stable weather, any kind of element that might be out there, whether it be for snow, or whether it be for flooding, slides, you name it," said Chris Woodward, Caltrans public information officer. "It's good to check early and often before you go."
