4 restaurants found with pest violations in Brevard County; 10 earned perfect inspections

Editor's note: We incorrectly reported that Little Phillies in Palm Bay had apest violation during a Nov. 1 inspection. 

Six restaurants in Brevard County failed to meet health and safety standards last week.

Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation reported 352 violations during 65 recent restaurant inspections. Inspectors labeled 60 violations as high priority, 80 violations as intermediate priority and 212 violations as basic priority.

Five restaurants in Brevard County violated pest standards. Inspectors found 10 restaurants did not follow good handwashing and hygienic practices. The department also handed out 32 violations in the county for food protection and cross-contamination.

Inspectors in Brevard County found 13 restaurants with two or more high-priority violations and 31 restaurants with five or more total violations.

Margarita Island Mexican Kitchen And Bar, 777 E Merritt Island Cswy Unit G15, was cited Oct. 31 with 29 total violations, Brevard County's most.

No Brevard County restaurants were closed bin inspectors.

In Kennedy Space Center:

  • SpaceX, a food truck at Saturn Causeway, J-8-2109 Support Building, SpaceX Lc-39A had a perfect inspection Nov. 2.

In Melbourne:

  • 321 Ice Cream Bar at 4301 N. Wickham Road, Suite 13 had a perfect inspection Nov. 4.

  • Fuego and Salt, a catering company at 1431 Highland Ave. had a perfect inspection Oct. 31.

  • Vending machines at Lowes 1086 at 2150 Minton Rd had a perfect inspection Nov. 3.

  • Residence Inn Melbourne at 1430 S. Babcock St. had a perfect inspection Nov. 3.

  • The Tap Room at 1 Air Terminal Parkway had a perfect inspection Nov. 4.

In Satellite Beach:

  • Beach N' Eats, a food truck based at 1790 State Road A1A had a perfect inspection Nov. 3.

  • Mr. Submarine & Salad, 2850 S. Hopkins Ave., was cited Nov. 2 with one pest violation among nine total violations.

Inspections are reported through the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, which says each inspection is a snapshot and restaurants could have more or fewer violations on other days. High-priority violations are those that could cause food poisoning or injury, such as problems with cooking, cooling and handwashing.

Intermediate violations are those that could lead to risk factors that could contribute to food poisoning or injury, such as problems with personnel training.

Basic violations are those that violate best practices.
