Let's try something different. This week's stories are kind of all restaurant spotlights — so let's spotlight them! Here's five new-ish restaurants and bars you should check out, plus pics from their mouthwatering menus.

North of Bourbon's creole flair — This bar on Goss Avenue has been open for a bit, but under the radar. The family-style bar and restaurant serves New Orleans-inspired deep Southern food, with a Cajun highlight and a lot of Chinese, Vietnamese and Italian influence, according to co-owner Brad Jennings. Most popular item is the crawfish boudin balls: a rice ball with crawfish and the "holy trinity" of onions, bell pepper and celery topped with house-made creole mustard aioli.

South Seas' tiki bar — Owner Shawn Cantley says "the world needs tiki right now." What once housed Butchertown Pizza Hall is now a brightly-colored tiki bar and restaurant pulling from Hawaiian, Jamaican and Mexican beach and surfer culture. It's not tourist luau; it's more like mid-century southern California vibes. With from-scratch syrups and fresh-squeezed fruits, the cocktails here carry much love and attention. On the food side of things, there's tacos, tortas and Hawaiian-inspired brunch. Definitely a unique middle-of-Louisville experience.

Red Bud Dining Room's upscale dining — I know y'all have been driving past the old Eiderdown location for weeks wondering what's up. Now we know: The team behind New Wave Burritos and Toasty's Tavern is opening an upscale American dining room there with a name and menu nodding back to the building's history. Two of the owners actually worked for Eiderdown back in the day so it's a return of sorts for them. Pretty neat! They'll have an inclusive, affordable drinks list and a simple, a la carte menu with eight starters, three sandwiches, several entrees and sides.

Let me know if you go check out any of these new places. As always, thanks for reading, and stay safe!
