5 sent to hospital after motel fire near Battle Creek
PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say five people, including one deputy and three firefighters, were sent to the hospital after a motel fire near Battle Creek.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said shortly before 10 p.m. Monday that it received a report of a fire at the Michigan Motel on M-66 near the intersection of Pennfield Road in Pennfield Township, north of Battle Creek.
When deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said the building was fully engulfed in flames and a woman was trapped inside a room.
The woman was rescued and taken to the hospital with injuries that the sheriff’s office said were not life-threatening.
A deputy and three firefighters were treated and released for smoke inhalation, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said the people displaced by the fire were taken to a nearby hotel.
It’s unknown what caused the fire.
