5 things to do in and around Akron this Labor Day weekend

Summer is just about over. But that doesn't mean there's not a lot to still do and see in and around Akron before there's a real chill in the air.

The National Weather Service says there's a chance of showers and even a rumble of thunder every day through Monday, but most days shouldn't be a total washout.

There are a fair number of special events happening this weekend from the air show in Cleveland to an arts show at Hale Farm to pizza in Akron to community festivals in Barberton and Stow. The Stark County Fair is happening in Canton.

Here are five things to do this weekend:

Summer Sunset Blast in Stow

Stow is once again hosting its Summer Sunset Blast at Silver Springs Park off Young Road.

The free festival will be Saturday and Sunday.

There will be food, kid’s activities, inflatables, games, music and beer, including craft beer from Missing Mountain.

There will be a fireworks display on Saturday night to mark an end to the festivities.

Barberton Labor Day

Barberton continues its tradition of celebrating the unofficial last weekend of summer.

The city will be hosting its Barberton Labor Day BBQ and Music Fest through Monday around Lake Anna.

The event will feature ribs, other food vendors, music, activities and a fireworks display Saturday night.

The city's annual parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Monday.

Ohio proud at Hale Farm

The 12th annualMade in Ohio Art & Craft Festival will set up shop at Hale Farm & Village through Sunday.

The festival at the historic farm and village in Bath Township will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

There will be some 170 artists and vendors selling everything from jewelry to pottery to paintings.

There will also be food available along with live music and entertainment.

The historic village and reenactors will also open.

Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children.

Akron Pizza Fest at Lock 3

The Akron Pizza Fest returns to Lock 3 through Sunday.

Organizers expect 20,000 or so hungry pizza fans.

On Saturday and Sunday, admission is buy one, get one free for adults from noon to 3 p.m. After that, admission to the park is $5 per person.

There will be live music throughout the festival including Stevie Ray Visited with Anya Van Rose on the main stage Saturday night. A fireworks display is also planned for 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

Cleveland National Air Show

A Labor Day tradition dating back to 1964 returns to Cleveland.

The Cleveland National Air Show will take to the skies over Burke Lakefront Airport Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are the headliner attraction.

The Blue Angels will be flying in the new F/A-18 Super Hornets aircraft that were featured in the recent "Top Gun: Maverick" movie.

There will be a variety of aerial demonstrations, along with aircraft from military to commercial to history on display on the ground.

Admission is $35 for adults and $20 for kids and all tickets must be purchased online at clevelandairshow.com as there will be no tickets sold at the gate this year.
