Fresh off the success of their latest album, metal band I Prevail took their "True Power" Tour to the Lonestar Amphitheater on Friday night.

Joined by Pierce the Veil, Fit for a King and Yours Truly, I Prevail closed the night with their popular anthem "Bow Down," wrapping up a powerful performance that was befitting one of the fastest-rising acts on the scene.

Here are the biggest takeaways from the show.

Lubbock loves Pierce the Veil

Though I Prevail were the headliners, and for good reason, the Lubbock audience couldn't wait for Pierce the Veil to take the stage. Chants for the band began quickly after Fit for a King wrapped up their 30-minute set. It had been five years since the band hit the road and the veterans performed as if they haven't missed a beat.

I Prevail delivers in live settings

The mix of Brian Burkheiser's clean vocals and Eric Vanlerberghe's throaty screams are a unique blend that takes the group to another level in a live show. It's one thing to hear it through a streaming service, CD or vinyl. It's another to see just how the band makes it work in person. Utilizing guitarist Dylan Bowman on backing vocals provides an added bonus to preserve Burkheiser's voice a bit, but the songs don't lose any impact.

Audience appeal

Having attended both shows, I can attest that the I Prevail-Pierce the Veil show had significantly more concert goes than the In This Moment-Nothing More bill at the same venue earlier this month. This made the atmosphere electric throughout the night. However, it also led to some issues.

'Lets take care of each other'

Not everybody got to enjoy the entire show. From the time Pierce the Veil announced they had three more songs, there were at least five stoppages of play through the rest of the night to get EMTs to attend to fans in the pit.

"Let's take care of each other," Pierce the Veil front man Vic Fuentes told the crowd several times.

It got to the point where I Prevail began throwing out waters to the crowd during their set to get them to hydrate. Burkheiser even continued to sing "Paranoid" while lofting water bottles into the crowd.

There were also so many fans, and some problems with the mobile tickets, that a line of concert goers was still filing in outside the venue until 8:30 p.m., well into Pierce the Veil's set, the third act on the four-band bill.

Concert quality was exceptional

Despite those issues, the show itself was exceptional, and one of the best overall concerts I've attended. There's certainly a market for this kind of bill in Lubbock, and the Lonestar Amphitheater provided the kind of smaller-venue, big-act feel that fits the genre beautifully.
