5 things to do in Milwaukee this Mother's Day weekend (some of which have free admission for Mom)

1. Free admission for mothers to Milwaukee County Zoo and museums

Moms get in for free on Mother's Day, May 14, at several major local attractions, including the Milwaukee County Zoo, the Milwaukee Public Museum, the Harley-Davidson Museum and Old World Wisconsin. Info: milwaukeezoo.org, mpm.edu, h-dmuseum.com and oldworldwisconsin.wisconsinhistory.org.

2. Mother's Day movies at Marcus Theatres, Avalon Theater

Take Mom to a movie for Mother's Day. Here are two to start with:

  • Marcus Theatres has a brunch-and-a-movie deal May 14 at its Bistroplex Southridge, Majestic, Movie Tavern Brookfield Square and Ridge cinemas. A full brunch begins at 10:15 a.m.; the movie, the Hollywood classic "The Wizard of Oz," starts at 11 a.m. Tickets are $40.50, $20.50 for children. Info: marcustheatres.com.

  • The Avalon Theater is showing "Mamma Mia!" at noon May 14. Tickets are $10, $8 for kids 11 and younger. Info: avalonmke.com.

3. 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' with music by Milwaukee Symphony

If you missed last weekend's Star Wars Day celebrations, here's a make-good: J.J. Abrams' jump-start of the franchise, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," with John Williams' score played live by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in the Bradley Symphony Center, 212 W. Wisconsin Ave. Screenings are at 7:30 p.m. May 12 and 13 and 2:30 p.m. May 14; tickets start at $30. Info: mso.org.

4. Rummage-O-Rama

Wisconsin Rummage-O-Rama returns this weekend at the Waukesha Expo Center, 1000 Northview Road, Waukesha. It's open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 13 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14. Admission is $5, $3 for seniors and members of the military, and free for kids younger than 12. (Moms get in free on May 14.) Info: wirummageorama.com.

5. Spring Fest in Lincoln Park

Friends of Lincoln Park and Nearby Nature Milwaukee host a Spring Fest in the park, 1301 W. Hampton Ave., from noon to 3 p.m. May 13.
