5 things to do and see in Aberdeen: Out & About

In addition to Halloween-themed events in to the days to come, here are five things to check out in Aberdeen in the next week.

Comedians Brooke Barsell, Breanna Kalhorn, Robert Davies and Jon Boon: Saturday from 8 to 10:30 p.m., Hub City Station Event Center, 1923 Sixth Ave. S.E., Suite 104, $5. Hear three stand-up comics from Omaha, Neb., take the stage, hosted by Aberdeen’s Jon Boon.

Brown County Relay for Life survivor dinner: 5:15-8 p.m. today, Masonic lodge, 503 S. Main St. Free meal to honor cancer survivors and one guest. Extra guests can join for $10.

'70s disco party: 7 p.m. Friday, Red Rooster Coffee House, 218 S. Main St., free. The 27th annual disco party will feature costumes, prizes, snacks, dancing and music by DJ Tab.

Claiming Her Seat at The Piano Festival Concerts: Sunday at the Johnson Fine Arts Center, 12th Avenue Southeast and South State Street. The Northern State University School of Fine Arts, in cooperation with the Edvard Grieg Society of the Dakotas, will host a one-day mini-festival, Claiming Her Seat at the Piano, featuring music by Norwegian women composers of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Events include a brown bag luncheon with a presentation by Danish-Canadian pianist Sandra Mogensen in the Red Room. Music by students, faculty and community pianists at 3 p.m. in the Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. Agathe Backer Grøndahl 175th Jubilee Concert, featuring Northern faculty members Marla Fogderud and Christopher Stanichar and guest performers Benjamin Druffel and Jean Hellner at 5 p.m. in the theater. Reception to follow in the lobby. All events are free. The festival is part of Fogderud’s sabbatical work in conjunction with her ongoing research on Norwegian music. The two concerts will also be livestreamed on the Northern Music Department Facebook page.

Aberdeen Community Concert Association presents Atlantic City Boys: 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theatre at the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center. This quartet will perform hits from the 1950s and '60s rock'n'roll era. Aberdeen Community Concert Association memberships and tickets can be purchased at Interior Design Concepts, 21 N. Main St., at the concert or online at aberdeencommunityconcerts.org. Advance tickets are $30 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets at the door are $35 for adults and $10 for students.
