5 things to do this weekend: All-you-can-eat seafood, a benefit run and a major food drive
Enjoy all-you-can-eat seafood, help with the nation's biggest one-day food drive or put on your running shoes — all for good causes.
Here are five things to do this weekend in Terrebonne and Lafourche:
Seafood Extravaganza supports Nicholls sports
Dine on all-you-can-eat shrimp, crabs and and crawfish and support scholarships for Nicholls State University athletes at Thursday's 20th annual Seafood Extravaganza.
It's scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union's Cotillion Ballroom on the Thibodaux campus.
The seafood is sponsored by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board.
Neal Swanner will be honored posthumously with the 2022 Hall of Distinction Award. The former owner of Bubba’s II Poboys in Thibodaux, who died in January 2021, was a prominent supporter of Nicholls Athletics. He helped provide upgraded facilities for softball, baseball and football and endowed over 30 scholarships for students.
Thursday's event will include auctions of Nicholls sports memorabilia, one-of-a-kind athletics experiences with Nicholls coaches and other items.
Tickets cost $150 apiece, with a VIP hour add-on for an extra $50.

All-you-can-eat crawfish for cause
The Vandebilt Catholic Terrier Club will host the Top Dawg Crawfish Cook-Off Saturday on the high school campus on Hollywood Road near Tunnel Boulevard in Houma.
Scheduled for 2-6 p.m., proceeds will benefit Vandebilt High Athletics.
A $25 entry fee includes all-you-can-eat crawfish, water and soft drinks. There will also be a cash bar available for visitors 21 and older. Crawfish will be served beginning at 4 p.m. Live entertainment will begin at 2 p.m.
Limited spots are still available for team entries. There is a $300 registration fee per
team.

Help Stamp Out Hunger
Leave nonperishable food items near your mailbox for Saturday's annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
Sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers since 1983, your postal carrier will pick up the food and deliver it to local food banks, pantries and shelters.
Since it began, the nation's largest one-day food drive has collected about 1.82 billion pounds of food.
You can also drop off food items from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Zydeco Harley-Davidson, 1740 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., in Houma. All donors register to win a $100 gift card.

Sample chicken wings and live music
Listen to live music and sample food during the second annual Wing Fest Saturday at On the Canal Bar, 1109 Dunn St. in Houma.
Thirty teams will compete from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to see who can cook the best chicken wings.
Reauxshambo will perform live music from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by Sheauxdown from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Proceeds benefit local families whose infants require hospital intensive care. The event is open to the public.
Admission is $10 per person.
Girls on the Run 5-K
The annual Girls on the Run 5-K is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bayou Country Sports Park, 4374 La. 311 in Houma.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., race at 10 a.m. It's open to all ages.
Girls on the Run is an after-school mentoring program that uses the power of running to help girls prepare for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
