Jul. 8—Americana classics

Session Americana will play classics of American roots music, along with original songs, at the weekly SummerSounds concert, beginning 7 p.m. today at St. Clair Park in downtown Greensburg.

The Boston-based folk/rock collective comprises a rotating line-up of singers and multi-instrumentalists who promise a raucous live show. Group members have played with acts such as Patty Griffin, Josh Ritter and the J. Geils Band.

Alyssa Hankey will provide pre-show music.

Admission is free; donations are taken during intermission to support the concert series.

Market happenings

Special features this week at the Ligonier Country Market include music by The Cash Out Band, a Johnny Cash tribute act, and a children's "Let's Cook Breakfast" activity with a local chef.

The week's featured organization will be Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Laurel Region, with representatives available to provide information on participation, services and activities.

The market runs from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday on the grounds of the Loyalhanna Watershed Association, at Main Street and Springer Road at the west end of the borough. About 130 vendors will be present.

Getting together

"Summer Saturday: Together Together" is planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg.

The outdoor event will feature games, an immersive scavenger hunt, a caricature artist, fire pits with a s'mores bar and music by Josie Award-winning modern country singer Andy Davis of Mt. Pleasant. Food and beverages, including beer, wine and a specialty cocktail, will be available for purchase.

The museum's Cantilever Gallery will be open for attendees to view the current "Alone Together: Encounters in American Realism" exhibition.

In case of inclement weather, the festivities will move indoors.

Dog days of summer

Daniel the golden retriever, a 2020 winner at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, will be present for the fourth annual Golden Gathering at 11 a.m. Sunday at Ligonier Paws on Main pet boutique, 136 W. Main St.

Golden retrievers and their owners are welcome to join in the fun, including treats and a parade around the Ligonier Diamond. Daniel's owner, Tammy Tomlinson of Hillock Golden Retrievers, will be available to answer questions and talk about Daniel and his success.

Donations of pet supplies, including toys, blankets, food and cat litter, will be taken to benefit a local animal shelter.

Participating dogs must be leashed and current on their shots. Preregistration is requested.

Dreams come true

The inaugural Wheels for Dreams Car Show is planned for noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Legion Keener Park, 1658 Catherine St., Latrobe.

The first 100 entries will receive dash plaques. Entry donation is $10. Trophies will be awarded, along with a kids' choice award. A basket raffle will be available.

The event is presented by Stars and Stripes Restoration to benefit Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
