Jul. 22—Funky Friday

The funky soul sounds of Joslyn & The Sweet Compression will fill Greensburg's St. Clair Park on Friday, as the weekly SummerSounds concert gets underway at 7 p.m.

Powerhouse vocalist Joslyn Hampton and her brass-heavy band play original music influenced by generations of groove music. Band member Marty Charters, who is Hampton's stepfather, has toured with music legends such as Junior Wells, Buddy Guy and Van Morrison. The group released its self-titled debut album in 2019.

Pre-show music will be by Evan Dean.

Singing sensations

Soul singer/songwriter Michael Grimm, Season 5 winner of NBC's "America's Got Talent," takes the stage at 8 p.m. Friday at The Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin.

Grimm's rendition of the R&B classic "When a Man Loves a Woman" secured the $1 million prize on the "AGT" finale on Sept. 14, 2010.

Opening for Grimm will be Jake HaldenVang, who made it to the Top 16 on Season 17 of NBC's "The Voice."

The open-air Bushy Run Market will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Bushy Run Battlefield, off Route 993 in Penn Township. Vendors will offer a wide variety of wares. A limited food menu will be available at the concession stand, along with free coffee and tea.

Market days also are planned for Aug. 27 and Sept. 24.

"Birds and Brews" for guests 21 and older is planned for 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Powdermill Nature

Reserve, 1795 Route 381, Cook Township.

Author and bird expert Scott Weidensaul will present a talk titled "A World on the Wing: The Global Odyssey of Migratory Birds," based on his best-selling new book. A Pulitzer Prize finalist, Weidensaul is a Fellow of the American Ornithological Society and an active field researcher.

Beverages will be supplied by Four Seasons Brewing Co. of Latrobe.

A deeper look

"Art of Seeing," a workshop with artist and author Dorit Brauer, founder of The Brauer Institute for Holistic Medicine in Pittsburgh, is planned for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg.

The session will include a walking tour of Greensburg and guided meditation, which participants will use to create a piece of art. A materials list will be provided upon registration.
