Jun. 10—Louisiana swamp rock

The SummerSounds concert series will host the Honey Island Swamp Band at 7 p.m. Friday in St. Clair Park in downtown Greensburg.

The five-piece Louisiana-based outfit plays Southern rock, with echoes of Little Feat, Dr. John, The Allman Brothers and Levon Helm.

The band formed in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when four musicians who had evacuated from New Orleans met by chance in the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco.

Friday's warm-up act, starting at 6:15 p.m., will be Chris Vipond.

Family Days finale

Mister Rogers Family Days wraps up Saturday in Latrobe, with activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the downtown area.

The final day of the weeklong festivities will include children's rides, activities and arts and crafts; entertainment; food vendors; car show; scavenger hunt; selfie station; visits from the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Trolley and Daniel Tiger and Katerina Kittycat costumed characters; and other activities for all ages.

Latrobe Art Center and Latrobe Historical Society will host Mister Rogers-themed exhibits.

A free screening of the Emmy Award-winning short film, "Saving Amelia," is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Westmoreland County Community College Latrobe campus, 130 Depot St. Popcorn and children's crafts will be provided.

Baskets of fun

A basket bash will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Word of Life Church, 4497 Route 136, Hempfield. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.

The event will feature more than 50 baskets, silent auction, raffles, 50-50 and door prize. Host is Pressley Ridge, with proceeds to benefit children and teens in foster care.

A $10 admission includes lunch and refreshments.

Native plant sale

A native plant sale is planned for 7:30 a.m.-noon Sunday at Historic Hanna's Town, in conjunction with the monthly Antiques & Collectibles Sale.

The available plant species, which are are native to Pennsylvania and support local biodiversity, are grown in greenhouses at Brandywine Conservancy's Penguin Court, the former Scaife family estate near Laughlintown that was bequeathed to the conservancy as a nature preserve in 2015.

The antiques and collectibles sale continues until 1 p.m., featuring vendors of historical crafts, reproductions and collectible items.

Admission to the site at 809 Forbes Trail Road is $3 per car. The sale is held rain or shine.

Jazzy afternoon

The Jazz Warriors Big Band will perform from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bella Terra Winery, 121 Sunny Lane, Hunker.

The 20-piece ensemble plays everything from popular big band and jazz standards to swing, Latin, funk and even a few jazz rock favorites. The group was founded in 2018 as a sub-group of the Penn-Trafford Community Band.
