Jun. 8—Rockin' the park

Elton Rohn has a repeat engagement at 7 p.m. Friday at the SummerSounds concert series in downtown Greensburg's St. Clair Park.

The Elton John tribute act drew the largest crowd of the 2022 SummerSounds season.

Hailing from Canada, the group delivers the look, feel and sound of a real Elton John show, including a piano-playing Captain Fantastic front man.

John Gresh will play pre-show music beginning at 6:15 p.m. Food vendors will be present.

Admission is free; donations are taken to support the annual weekly concerts running through Aug. 25.

Organizers note that, due to an expected large crowd, parking will be free in the the Bell Garage at 106 W. Otterman St., about three blocks from the park. For more information, visit summersounds.com.

No disagreement

Veteran British rocker Dave Mason brings his "Endangered Species Tour" to Greensburg for a show at 8 p.m. Friday in The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St.

A member of the 1960s super-group Traffic, Mason is also a prolific solo artist who has collaborated with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Rita Coolidge, Delaney & Bonnie, Leon Russell, Ron Wood, Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton.

Among Mason's best-known songs is "We Just Disagree" from 1977. At The Palace, he'll will be backed by a four-piece band.

Ethnic food fest

The Irwin Ethnic Food Festival and Craft Show is planned for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in downtown Irwin.

Restaurants and food booths will offer specialties such as haluski, kielbasa, brats and sauerkraut, tacos, nachos, Italian meatballs, pizza, crepes, baklava, cream puffs, apple strudel, smoothies and salads.

Craft vendor booths will be set up along Main Street.

Mikey D and his Balkan Boys will play from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Temperance and temptation

"Railroad Rendezvous: An Evening of Music and History at the Darlington Station" is planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Ligonier Valley Rail Road Museum, 3032 Idlewild Hill Lane, Ligonier Township.

The Prohibition-themed event will feature the world premiere performance of Cecelia Otto's new concert program, "Prohibition: 90 Years of Temperance, Temptation & Song." Otto is a classically trained singer who creates historically based musical programs.

The program chronicles the era through trivia and Victorian parlor songs, Tin Pan Alley hits and speakeasy favorites. Otto will be accompanied on piano by Seton Hill University music education major Jennifer Kist.

The 21-and-older event will feature light appetizers from Myriam's Table and tastings from local wine, beer, spirits and mead producers. The museum and its 1905 bobber caboose will be open to guests.

Summertime fun

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Laurel Region will host a Summer Fest from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Pavilion 7 in Twin Lakes Park east of Greensburg. The pavilion is near the Island Stage on the lower lake.

The afternoon will include carnival games, dunk tank, bounce house, costumed characters, live performances and demonstrations, face painting and more. Food trucks and concessions will be available.

Event highlights include a prince and princess party at 12:30 p.m. and a Pokemon party at 4:30 p.m.

Admission is free; fees apply to some activities. A $25 all-day pass includes T-shirt, hot dog meal, face painting, sand art, bounce house and three games.
