5 things to do in Westmoreland County this weekend: May 26-28

May 25—Community music

A recital by students in the Seton Hill University Community Music Program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the university's Performing Arts Center, 100 Harrison Ave., Greensburg.

The program serves area young people and adults who are seeking to advance their musical training and performance skills through private lessons with Seton Hill faculty members, community instructors and student instructors.

The program also coordinates vocal, band and orchestral ensembles.

Recital admission is free. For information, visit setonhill.edu.

Off to 'Dreamland'

The Stage Right Student Company will present the musical "Dreamland" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin.

The new production by Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen, award-winning songwriters of Broadway's "Tuck Everlasting," is described as an "over-the-top, B-movie-style musical comedy" and "a musical riff on Shakespeare's 'Midsummer' set during the declassification of Area 51."

Tickets are $15-$20, available by calling 724-367-4000 or lamptheatre.org.

To market, to market

The Bushy Run Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Bushy Run Battlefield at 1253 Bushy Run Road, off Route 993 in Penn Township.

The market features local crafters and vendors selling a variety of wares, including produce.

The Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society, which sponsors the event, will accept donations to help cover costs of administration and educational programs at the historic site.

The market takes place on the fourth Saturday of the month during the summer.

For information, call 724-527-5584 or visit Bushy Run Battlefield on Facebook.

First world war?

Reenactors with Seven Years' War Inc. will be doing living history demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Fort Ligonier.

Visitors will learn about daily 18th-century soldier life and how the Seven Years' War, known in America as the French and Indian War, directly led to the American Revolution.

The group interprets all theaters of the war, including Europe, North America, India, the Caribbean and other areas touched by the conflict, which lasted from 1756 to 1763 and is considered by many historians as the first world war.

Reenactors from the Detachment of the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment also will be encamped at the fort at routes 30 and 711 in Ligonier.

In honor of Westmoreland County's 250th anniversary, all weekend visitors will receive a 25% discount on the admission fee. For information, call 724-238-9701 or visit fortligonier.org.
