Feb. 17—Student artists

Artists of the 21st Century, the annual exhibit of work by students in Westmoreland and Fayette counties, opens Friday at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley, Route 711 and Boucher Lane, Ligonier Township.

Held in conjunction with National Youth Art Month, the exhibit is open to schools that participate in SAMA's Arts-in-Education or Artist-in-Residence program. Each participating school district may submit up to 25 individual projects and two group projects.

A reception is planned for 1 to 4 p.m. March 4. The exhibit runs through April 30.

Museum hours are noon to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. A $1 donation is suggested to support the exhibit.

Trivia on tap

Trivia enthusiasts are invited to compete during a Pub Trivia session at Art on Tap 2.0, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg.

Trivia begins a 6:30 p.m., led by North Huntingdon-based Stinger Trivia. Individuals and teams of all sizes are welcome to play, although seating is limited. Winner receives a $25 gift card to the museum shop.

The 21-and-older happy hour also will feature an art scavenger hunt, pub-inspired light bites, specialty charcuterie and cash bar with beer, wine and specialty cocktails. Cupcakes will be served in collaboration with Westmoreland 250, the official celebration of the county's 250th anniversary.

Noisy and heavy

Two live music shows are planned this weekend at Green Beacon Gallery, 235 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg:

—Noise/Experimental Show, 7 p.m. Friday — Acts include Luke Ferdinand, Veruse and The Revolutionary Jazz Suicide Band. Cover is $8.

—Heavy Show, 7 p.m. Saturday — Acts include The Karens, Backbiter, Place Blame and Demon by Design. Cover is $10.

Super tribute

Superunknown, a tribute to the late rock vocalist Chris Cornell, plays at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin.

The band covers the music of bands fronted by Cornell, including Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog. Vocalist/guitarist Jason Reed emulates the signature growling vocals that made Cornell a key figure of the 1990s grunge scene.

Money matters

The Greensburg Coin Club will host a show and sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Circleville Volunteer Fire Department, 129 Robbins Station Road, North Huntingdon.

A number of collectors and dealers will be present with coins and other items related to numismatics.
