Here Are 5 Unusual Venues For Weddings And Receptions

There are few occasions more special than a wedding, and it’s the perfect excuse to go all out. Many tie the knot at a site of worship or a hall of some sort. Others do it at castles, farms and on watercraft. But what options are available to those who wish to exchange vows in an environment that’s a bit out of the box? Or if not the wedding itself, the reception?

Here are 5 unusual venues you might not have considered for a wedding or wedding reception.

The gym

Yes, believe it or not, people have gotten married at the gym.

On Sept 3, 2017, one couple in Ohio got married at Planet Fitness. The reason? That’s where they first met.

The entire party was dressed in traditional wedding attire, with the bride and groom opting for sneakers. One photo showed them posing with cardio machines, which was a funny contrast to all the finery.

A Greenhouse

You don’t have to be a botanist to enjoy the presence of fresh plants all around you and your guests.

At a greenhouse, photographs are bound to come out well, thanks to the natural light pouring in from all directions.

Brides notes, “greenhouse wedding venues work in any season. If you’re set on a winter wedding, your guests will stay warm while still enjoying the snowy, wintery scenery through the glass windows surrounding the room. And for spring and summer weddings, greenhouse wedding venues will set the stage with seasonal greenery and blooms.”

A Graveyard

Talk about till death do us part!

A graveyard wedding may be odd to some, but clearly not all.

Forest Lawn in upstate New York is the final resting place of more than 165,000 people. With permission, you can host your wedding at the chapel and the gazebo. You can also have wedding photographs taken.

A graveyard could also be a dope venue for Halloween-themed nuptials. Forest Lawn frowns at this, but other graveyards might allow it.

Museums and Libraries

Say “I do” against a backdrop of paintings, sculptures, fossils and other museum treasures.

The Stephen A. Schwarzman building, also known as the main branch of the New York Public Library, is available for weddings and other events.

You can also get hitched at the New York Hall of Science, The Cradle of Aviation Museum and Madame Tussauds, among others.

Plan a formal dinner for up to 100 or a massive cocktail reception for 3,500 people at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

London’s most famous fortress has served many purposes in its centuries of existence.  It has witnessed imprisonment, torture, execution and coronations.

If you and your spouse-to-be are history buffs, this venue might speak to you.

According to Unique Venues of London, “like a loyal sentry, armed with powerful stone walls, the Tower of London has repelled invasion and protected the kingdom while securing high-profile prisoners and precious contents within. Whatever event you are planning, we proudly invite you and your guests to enjoy the amazing venues available for hire at this World Heritage Site.”
