Visit a museum

Sacramento is filled with rich history from the Gold Rush to the Sacramento Valley Railroad. There are a fair amount of museums around town to explore on a rainy day if you’re feeling like indulging in California history:

Catch a Kings game

Basketball season starts in October and runs through April. The Sacramento Kings are putting on a great season this year, which makes it more a reason to catch a game at Golden 1 Center. If you don’t want to spend on watching a game at the stadium visit a local sports bar instead like Tom’s Watch Bar in the DOCO.

The next game is away on Friday, Dec. 9, against the Cleveland Cavaliers. They’re back at Golden 1 on Dec. 19 against the Charlotte Hornets.

Read a book at a coffee shop

Sacramento has a variety of specialty coffee shops to chose from throughout the city. Pick from one of the coffee shops listed below — or one of the many others — and cuddle up with a book and a seasonal hot drink.

Watch a movie

Watching a movie on a rainy day is the classic activity. If you want to make an outing out of the event, watch a movie at one of Sacramento’s theaters. Here are a few:

More indoor activities

Who says rainy days have to be mellow? If you’re looking for a high-energy activity there are plenty of options to choose from like: rollerskating at The Rink; mini golfing at Flatstick Pub or racing at K1 Speed.
