50 Retailers Offering Military Discounts for Veterans Day

These are just a few of the many places offering special prices for military service members

By Samantha B Gordon

It’s no secret that plenty of businesses offer discounts for military and first responders.

Many honor these promotions all year long, while others may roll out the red carpet for holidays like Veterans Day and Memorial Day. You may think of restaurants first, but that’s far from the only type of place you’ll find these offers.

If you’re flexible on where you shop and what you’re buying, you should be able to find military discounts on everything from travel and hotels to cars and mattresses to services and entertainment. This year a number of retailers, including Champs, Express, and Foot Locker, have reduced the size of their offered discounts compared to recent years. And Lenovo no longer offers a military discount at all but still has discounts for first responders, healthcare workers, and others.

Let’s talk about retail. Whether you’re buying groceries, clothing, or electronics, you may be able to save a little extra every time you shop—if you shop in the right places. To help you get a better idea of what your options are, we’ve compiled a list of national retailers that offers some sort of military discount or promotion.

This list is not all-encompassing, and many regional and local stores will provide similar offers. In some cases, even if they don’t publicly advertise a discount, they may have a policy in place, so you can always ask when you check out.

Military discounts typically apply to any active-duty or retired service members, veterans, and their immediate family—first responders like police, firefighters, nurses, and even teachers are often included in this as well. To receive a discount, you’ll probably have to to provide proof that you’re eligible.

If you’re on active duty, your military ID will suffice. Veterans can use their Veterans Affair (VA) benefits photo card or a VA photo ID, which is available on request from the VA. And if you live in a state where your veteran status is noted on your license, that should be more than enough proof.

When you’re shopping online, you may need to submit a photo of your ID (typically with a third-party verification service like ID.me or SheerID) or contact customer service to access the discount, but in-store shoppers can simply show their ID when they check out.
