Gary and Amelia Hamm are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

It was love at first sight in the ninth grade. Gary transferred to St. Anne’s Academy to be with Amelia, where they were high school sweethearts that married on Jan. 28, 1972, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith.

They explain that their long-lasting marriage is attributed to agape love, communication, adventure and laughter, all anchored by their faith in God. Their song is “Never My Love” by The Association. They enjoy staying active, playing games, riding bikes and traveling, especially with their family. Their favorite hobby is playing pickleball and sharing the game and how to play with the community.

They have four children and 13 grandchildren, who have each been given a special nickname from their Papa and Gaga.

The family is grateful for the love and commitment Gary and Amelia have for each other in their marriage and family, and want them to know they are loved very much.
