54-hour closure of I-41/US 45 is once again scheduled for the weekend after being postponed twice

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is hoping the third time's the charm after two attempts to complete construction on I-41/US 45 were postponed due to weather. Originally scheduled for July 15, there will be a 54-hour full closure of I-41/US 45 between Watertown Plank Road and Burleigh Street, starting at 11 p.m. Friday  and lasting until 5 a.m. Monday.

This weekend I-41/US 45 will close for 54 hours between Watertown Plank Road and Burleigh Street as part of the Zoo Interchange North Leg project.
This weekend I-41/US 45 will close for 54 hours between Watertown Plank Road and Burleigh Street as part of the Zoo Interchange North Leg project.

The full closure of the section is part of the Zoo Interchange North Leg project and will allow the placement of new Union Pacific Railroad bridge beams. Additional work will be done during the closure.

The DOT encourages motorists to consider alternate routes during the closure and has designated Mayfair Road as a primary detour route during construction. This means that there will be increased traffic on Mayfair Road; drivers are being asked to anticipate delays or consider alternate routes to their destination.

The closure is once again contingent upon weather permitting the project. Should inclement weather become a factor, the DOT will provide updates.
