I-55 bridge to reopen early Sunday evening. Here are the traffic patterns you need to know

The Tennessee Department of Transportation announced traffic can resume half a day earlier than planned on the recently closed I-55 Mississippi River Bridge.

Motorists can resume using the I-55 bridge sometime Sunday evening, said TDOT spokesperson Nichole Lawrence via Twitter.

The I-55 bridge was closed Friday in order for construction crews to begin a number of repairs and projects including setting beams for the new Wisconsin Avenue bridge, construction of a cross-over at the east end of the I-55 bridge, and repair work on the I-55 bridge.

With the reopening, motorists will need to use the following traffic routes in the area:

  • I-55 northbound and I-55 southbound will have a single lane each direction from I-55 southbound ramp to McLemore Avenue.

  • Riverside Drive northbound and southbound will close from South Parkway to Carolina Avenue.

  • Channel 3 Drive ramp to and from Riverside Drive will close.

  • Crump Boulevard westbound to I-55 southbound ramp will close.

  • Riverside Drive southbound to Crump Boulevard eastbound ramp will close.

  • I-55 northbound exit ramp to eastbound Crump Boulevard will close.

  • I-55 northbound (near Carolina Avenue) will close, traffic will shift to I-55 southbound lane.

  • I-55 southbound ramp (near Crump Boulevard) will close.

  • One lane in each direction on Crump Boulevard.

  • On ramp to I-55 northbound will detour to Metal Museum Drive.

  • Crump Boulevard exit only to Metal Museum Drive, on ramp will close.
