56-year-old Oregon man accused of possessing, selling explosives

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An Oregon man has been indicted for unlawfully possessing and selling explosives.

On Thursday, a federal grand jury charged Medford resident Wesley Armstrong with distributing explosives by a non-licensee, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possessing with intent to distribute and distributing fentanyl.

In March, the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement Team reported the 56-year-old man to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives due to his suspected possession of explosives and intent to sell them.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, Armstrong was arrested on March 27 after he sold eight cast explosives, seven non-electric shock tube detonators and a small amount of fentanyl.

Officials said investigators also conducted a search warrant on his vehicle, which contained more fentanyl and a loaded pistol.

On March 28, the Medford man was issued a federal criminal complaint on the following charges: “federal criminal complaint with dealing explosives without a license, possessing stolen explosives, possessing explosives as a convicted felon, possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, and possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Armstrong will be arraigned “at a later date”.”
