A 59-year-old woman from New Castle has won a $40,000 Delaware Lottery prize this month.

Michelle Thompson purchased an Instant Game HOT & SIZZLING ticket from Pockets Discount Liquors on South DuPont Highway in New Castle that turned out to be a winner.

Thompson has been playing the Delaware Lottery sporadically throughout the years and usually opts to purchase four or five tickets at a time when playing Instant Games, she told the Delaware Lottery.

Shocked about her recent win – her biggest lottery prize ever – she immediately called her daughter to share the news.

Thompson claimed her prize from Lottery Headquarters in Dover on April 6 and plans to put the money toward paying off her car.
