Reading High School’s Spanish Travel Club held a 5K fundraiser Aug. 6 during Reading’s festival days.

The proceeds of the annual event benefit the Spanish Travel Club members paying for international travel.

The club took its first trip last month to Spain for eight days and their next international trip will be to Costa Rica or Peru, said Kurt Stump, the English and Spanish teacher at Reading High School.

On Saturday, the 3rd annual race was held at Reading Elementary School.

“A small field of runners from around the county including Hillsdale, Hudson, Osseo, Jonesville, Marshall, Manitou Beach and Reading took to a course around the perimeter of the city, starting and finishing at the Elementary School,” Stump said.

Macy Fazekas of Hillsdale was the first across the line, with a time of 21:31. Josh Conklin of Jonesville was the first male finisher, in 22:02. Darlene Radziewicz of Hudson was the first walker to finish the course.

The event was sponsored by June's Place of Reading, Heffelfinger Farms, KB Law Office, Hillsdale Orthodontics, Cronin Hillsdale Dodge, Rob's Barbershop of Reading, Dr Paul and Betty Blount of Reading, Southern Michigan Bank and Trust, Reading Pizza Barn, Reading American Legion Auxiliary, County National Bank,Pointe Rental, Sanders, Insurance of Reading and K-Tees of Reading.
