The Granville community is honoring the memory of a standout Granville High School track athlete by doing what he loved — running.

The Inaugural Run for Theron 5K and 1-mile race will be held at 6 p.m. on June 17 at Granville High School in honor of Theron Rogerson, a 2021 GHS graduate who died by suicide in May 2022. The event is open to families and runners of all ages.

All profits from the race benefit the Theron Rogerson Scholarship Fund, a $2,000 annual scholarship to a GHS student athlete. This fund, which will highlight the risk of suicide, has set a goal of awarding the scholarship for at least 19 years to honor Rogerson's life.

Rogerson excelled in track and hurdles while at GHS, and then attended Mount Vernon Nazarene University as a track athlete. He was a loving brother, son, and friend, who is remembered for his kind soul, enjoyable personality, and dedication to the sport.

Registration is available through the Granville Recreation District website. There is no deadline to register, and people can still sign up on race day. It costs $25 to participate in the 1-mile race and $35 for the 5K. Packet pick-up will be from 3-5 p.m. the day of the race.

The top three male and female finishers will receive a commemorative mug.
