$5M in American Rescue Plan Act money available for Cape organizations

Barnstable County officials announced that $5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds will be distributed to nonprofits, private and for-profit organizations based in the county.

The funding is available in small- and medium-sized grants for Cape-based organizations. Officials plan to distribute $2 million in small grants of $100,000 to $250,000; and $3 million will be distributed via medium-sized grants of $250,000 to $500,000, according to the County Board of Regional Commissioners and the Assembly of Delegates.

The allocation is in addition to $10 million currently available to 15 Cape municipalities.

An ARPA Funding Bidders Conference is scheduled for Aug. 17-18 to answer questions about eligibility requirements and the application process.

This $5 million disbursement will expand the county’s ability to address the economic recovery from COVID by opening funding to other organizations to increase the capacity to find solutions to address critical issues facing local Cape Cod communities.

Commissioner Chair Sheila Lyons said the funds will provide an economic catalyst for businesses and organizations seeking to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are pleased to work to provide these funds to deserving community organizations and nonprofits on Cape Cod and we urge them to participate in the upcoming bidders conferences and apply for these grants,” she wrote in a statement.

Patrick Princi, speaker of the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates, said the funds will benefit Cape communities for years to come.

“The Assembly of Delegates is pleased to be working with the Board of Commissioners to help deliver this $5 million in additional critical ARPA funds directly to our local communities across Cape Cod,” he said.

The ARPA Funding Bidders Conferences will be Aug. 17 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Aug. 18 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
