Fifth person in 6 weeks dies in Nashville's Percy Priest Lake

A fifth person died over the weekend at Percy Priest Lake.

Boating law enforcement officers on Sunday responded to a call around 4 p.m. near the Cook Recreation Area. The Metro Office of Emergency Management and Metro Nashville Fire Department recovered the deceased shortly after 7 p.m.

The victim, Jorge Guevara Ventura, of Davidson County, went into the water and never resurfaced.

A preliminary investigation indicated that two men, Daniel Garcia and Ventura, were boating when their vessel broke down. Ventura entered the water and attempted to pull the boat to shore with a rope. He began to struggle and Garcia was unable to save him.

Ventura was 32.

The incident marks the 12th boating-related fatality this year in Tennessee, with five occurring in the last six weeks on Percy Priest Lake.
