The 6 Breakfast Tacos You Must Eat When In Los Angeles
As a proud Texan, I take breakfast tacos pretty seriously. In fact, folks in my hometown of San Antonio swear it's the place that made the dish popular stateside. When I moved to LA, I did some digging to find the greatest in town: There's no better way to start a day than with a warm flour tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, cheese, salsa, and refried beans, all wrapped in foil so you can eat on the way to work. My list includes Tex-Mex, authentically Mexican, and plenty with an only-in-LA twist.

I normally don't get meat on my breakfast tacos, but I couldn't resist El Barrio's juicy Wagyu beef brisket options—which I devoured in two bites. For a distinctly local dish, go for the Sonoran flour tortillas.

This colorful, affordable taco window serves up "inauthentic and unconventional" tacos, so don't shudder at my recommendation: the pastrami, egg, and cheese taco with tots on top. Just trust me on this.

Barbecue for breakfast? Yes, please. This BBQ joint sits among the most diverse group of vendors in DTLA's Grand Central Market. Brunch is served only on Saturday and Sunday mornings "until [they] run out," so come early to try the smoky brisket breakfast tacos.
HomeState

This is my go-to spot when I want to get a taste of home; it's as close as you'll get to true Tex-Mex this far west. The Trinity (scrambled eggs, bacon, potato, cheese) and the Frio (refried beans and cheese) are great, but HomeState's true secret weapon is the queso, which is perfect for dipping your tacos.
Guisados

Guisados is a cult favorite in Los Angeles, partly for its prowess with breakfast pork. Try its Weenie con Huevo, featuring potatoes, queso amarillo, and chopped hot dogs.
The Griddle Cafe

This spot is best known for its bigger-than-your-face specialty pancakes, but if you stumble across its "Kicking and Screaming" breakfast tacos, you'll realize they're the true star of the menu. I dream about the creamy chipotle aioli on top.
