Base, 6 Cape towns will honor those who died serving their country. Here's where and when.

Where will you be at 3 p.m. Monday?

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs each year asks people to pause whatever they are doing at that time for a minute of silence to honor veterans who died in service to their country.

Memorial Day has existed since 1868, but the National Moment of Remembrance was not created until 2000, when Congress voted, and the president signed the bill.

“It’s a way we can all help put the memorial back in Memorial Day,” wrote Moment of Remembrance founder Carmella LaSpada in a veterans department notice about the event.

This year, Memorial Day falls on President John F. Kennedy’s birthday of May 29, 1917. The JFK Museum in Hyannis, which honors the 35th President, will open at 10 a.m. Memorial Day.
