6 New England communities land on list of ‘hottest zip codes’ in America

New England is the hip place to be these days with many new homeowners flocking to the Northeast in 2022, according to a new report.

Realtor’s “America’s Hottest ZIP Codes of 2022″ report revealed homebuyers are no longer targeting the best-known suburbs and are instead seeking out more affordable communities where they can buy a big home and still be within commuting distance of bigger cities.

“People aren’t giving up on their dream home, but it’s moving even farther away from the big cities, past the suburbs, and into small towns where they can find a home that fits in their budget,” Danielle Hale, chief economist of Realtor.com, said in the report.

This year’s hottest ZIP codes list was compiled by looking at housing market demand using listing data from January to June 2022, according to Realtor.

Buying trends showed people targeting homes with amenities like pools, wraparound porches, and hot tubs located in wooded areas within striking distance of Boston.

The hottest ZIP codes for 2002 are as follows, according Realtor:

  1. Brighton, New York -- Median home list price: $275,000

  2. Nashua, New Hampshire -- Median home list price: $536,000

  3. Worthington, Ohio -- Median home list price: $467,000

  4. Derry, New Hampshire -- Median home list price: $447,000

  5. Windham, Maine -- Median home list price: $505,000

  6. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania -- Median home list price: $424,000

  7. Johnson City, Tennessee -- Median home list price: $329,000

  8. 8. Hooksett, New Hampshire -- Median home list price: $482,000

  9. North Attleboro, Massachusetts -- Median home list price: $587,000

  10. Auburn, Maine -- Median home list price: $267,000
