These Are the 6 Gucci-Approved Places to Travel in 2019

Looking for a fashionable place to go in 2019? Then perhaps a Gucci-approved locale will do.

Today, the brand announced their new Gucci Places, or destinations that “possess the quality of being able to surprise, arouse interest, and inspire a creative response.” Essentially: the places the fashion house finds, well, cool.

They’re all over the world, from New York City to Seoul and Italy. Below, six Gucci-favored places to check out this year.

Dapper Dan Atelier Studio, New York City

Last year, Gucci partnered with Dapper Dan, the designer known for his “knock up” reinterpretations of luxury patterns, on a Harlem atelier. The result was a resplendent red wonderland with leather couches, velvet curtains, chandeliers, and Gucci wallpaper. So it’s no surprise that, almost 12 months later, the 125th street brownstone serves as an official representation of the House.

The Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Los Angeles

Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele fell in love with the Hollywood Forever Cemetery—the final resting place of stars like Judy Garland, Cecil B. Demille, Douglas Fairbanks, John Huston, and Johnny Ramone—after he went to a tribute party for the latter in 2016. The landmark ended up inspiring several pieces from Gucci’s Spring Summer 2017 collection.

Gucci Garden, Florence, Italy

Writer Tiziana Cardini describes Florence’s Gucci Garden—which includes a boutique, an exhibition space, a bookstore, and the restaurant Gucci Ostera da Massimo Bottura—as a “kaleidoscopic creative space.” It’s housed in the 14th century Palazzo della Mercanzia—which translates to Palace of the Merchandise—an utterly appropriate choice.

Boboli Gardens, Florence, Italy

The grand and green Florence garden is the fourth Gucci place of 2019. The sprawling oasis has an amphitheater, classical Roman statues, grottos, ponds, fountains, and an abundance of flowers. Thanks to its location behind the landmark Pitti Palace, once home to the Medici family, it’s already one of the city’s most popular and must-see sites.

Antica Libreria Cascianelli, Rome, Italy

The Rome bookstore, known for its heraldry and art history texts, has changed little since its founding in the 19th century. There’s a rail mechanism, blown-glass bookcases, and, in the window display, mini theatrical stage sets. The eccentric place was the setting for Gucci’s Pre-Fall 2017 lookbook.

Daelim Museum, Seoul, South Korea

The Korean photography museum is known for showing off works by contemporary and modern artists: in 2017, it held Todd Selby’s first museum show,, and currently has an exhibit dedicated to friend-of-the-house and Gucci collaborator Coco Capitán (Capitán is also a contributor to Vogue.)

The Daelim was originally a family house, built in 1967. Famous French architect Vincen Cornm turned it into a museum in 2002. The modern space is known for its stained glass windows inspired by bojagi, or traditional Korean traditional textile patterns.
