6-hour overnight barricade in Norfolk ends with arrest

NORFOLK, VA. (WAVY) — Norfolk police arrested a man who barricaded himself in a home for several hours Sunday night into Monday morning.

The incident happened on 8800 block of Semmes Ave. The location is right off Granby St. This is in the Commodore Park Neighborhood near Northside Middle School.

Police responded to the incident around 10:20 p.m. Sunday. Officers have identified 43-year-old Chad Harrison as the suspect.

According to officers, after attempting to speak with Harrison, he barricaded himself inside of the residence and discharged a firearm.

The Hostage and Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Operations Team responded to the location. Harrison was taken into custody without incident just before 5 a.m.

Harrison was charged with brandishing a firearm, assault on a family member, preventing another from summoning law enforcement and shooting in an occupied dwelling. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.

A WAVY crew observed police in tactical gear and saw at least two police drones flying above. The Norfolk police bomb squad, the fire department and medics were also at the scene.

The Norfolk Police Department is still investigating the incident.
